When you participate in this one-of-a-kind tour of the beautiful northern Maine countryside,  you will be in the company of not only fellow cyclists, riding for a worthy cause, but also experience the  legendary hospitality of Aroostook County folk! The area is quiet, peaceful and safe.

When you arrive Friday evening, come on upstairs in the Campus Center and listen to the classic, relaxing sounds of the Northern Maine Chamber Orchestra while you enjoy the wine and cheese reception sponsored by Northeast Publishing Co., in preparation for tomorrow’s ride!

Walk downtown from the campus and you will be greeted by folks who say “Hi” and mean it, and in a short distance you can stop in local restaurants for “just rewards,” such as a giant cream puff filled with ice cream and topped with hot chocolate sauce at Governor’s Restaurant; or home made muffins, breads and sweets from Theresa’s Bakery; or how about finding that favorite wine from Merchants On the Corner, as well as gift items; Country Collectibles has everything from troll beads to Maine souvenirs.  Looking for a new Vera Bradley item? – Wilder’s has that and much, much more.  If you want a quiet, but elegant meal, Cafe Sopressos is just next door.  Across the way is the Northeastland Hotel with a full restaurant and lounge.  These are just a few things within walking distance of the campus, but should you be looking for that perfect ice cream, Houlton Farms Dairy has their drive-up ready for you..ice cream like your grandmother used to make.

Saturday afternoon will be the time to take a tour of our historical sites, explore the State Park and you can do some hiking, swimming, boating. Along with the potential for tubing down the Aroostook River, and world-class mountain biking trails at the Nordic Heritage Center, recreational opportunities abound!

Along Saturday morning’s Ride route, you will meet some of our Amish neighbors, in their horse and buggies, and get a chance to stop and say hello at the rest stop, at an authentic Amish country store, “The Home Baked Goods Store,” where you will find yummy baked goods and bulk food items. Wagon repairs are also done here. Many Amish farms are along the Saturday morning route of the ride.

Somewhere in here, you are going to be able to cycle some of the best places in Maine to ride a bike! The vistas are breathtaking giving credence to the phrase “Big Sky”.
